Medical ephemera from the nineteenth century is of interest to a large swath of researchers including not just historians of medicine but folklorists, cultural historians and sociologists. The Adam Matthew Popular Medicine collection is made up of materials from the Library Company of Philadelphia which is among the largest of its type in the United States. To many people it is inherently interesting in that it consists of, trading cards, broadsides, almanacs and the like. The subject matter, too, is broad. Everything from phrenology and hydrotherapy to sexual health is covered. Already faculty are interested in using it for instructional purposes.
