Theatre in Video showcases filmed performances of classic and contemporary productions from around the world. Most of the performances were filmed from the stage for an intended television audience (PBS, BBC, etc.) between 1950-1990. Notably represented are works of Shakespeare, but the collection also includes works from Eugene O’Neill, Arthur Miller, Anton Chekhov, Wendy Wasserstein, Lorraine Hansberry, and others.
For those interested in the craft of theatre, this collection also includes documentaries on acting and stage design. Many of these documentaries date back to the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, for those interested in historical practices. For more contemporary reflections on acting and set design, see our Digital Theatre Plus subscription.
Records from both collections will be indexed in the Franklin catalog this summer, which means productions from Theatre in Video will appear in Franklin search results.
