There are two great collections of 17th and 18th century British newspapers. One, the Burney Collection, is housed at the British Library, and we already own it in digital form. The second is the Nichols Collection, which is housed at the Bodleian Library and was recently also purchased as a digital file. It contains titles that aren’t in the Burney Collection and also includes issues that are missing from title runs in Burney.
It is now possible to search both newspapers simultaneously using the Gale Primary Sources platform, allowing scholars to perform online searches of newspapers that just recently required trips to two separate libraries in London.
