During the 2016-2017 academic year, the Penn Libraries have acquired the complete ebook backfile of Penn Press titles and we have started to acquire annual frontfiles of new ebook titles from the Penn Press.
The Penn Libraries have been purchasing University of Pennsylvania Press ebooks for years, most often on the JSTOR platform. Starting in 2014, the Penn Press partnered with De Gruyter to distribute the press’s entire ebook list.
The University of Pennsylvania Press was founded in 1890, and it has built an outstanding catalog of books in American history, in European history and literary studies from late antiquity through the early modern period, and on international human rights. The Penn Press also publishes in landscape architecture, Jewish studies, contemporary ethnography, ethnopolitical conflict, urban studies, and current and public affairs. The Penn Press also distributes Penn Museum publications.
The new Penn Press ebook collection on the De Gruyter platform will bring approximately 100 new ebooks each year, with a 2,200-title backfile from 2013 to the press’s early days. Each Penn Press ebook appears in Franklin Catalog.
